Sylviane Lucille Whitehurst (nee Ryng), after a year-long battle with cancer, passed away peacefully on Friday, 9/16/22, in Placida, FL. She fought a heroic battle, maintaining a good sense of humor and strong optimism during such a challenging time. She enjoyed an adventurous life that included boating/sailing, golfing, traveling, and spending time with her family in Florida, in Jamestown, RI, and at the beach. She was born in Pont-a-Mousson France on 12/13/48 but came to Massachusetts when she was 9 months old. She raised her children in Tampa, Florida and spent the last 12 years of her life in Placida, FL, near her parents and her sister, Rose.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Gerald Whitehurst, in 2008, one brother (Ronald Ryng), her parents (Stanley and Emilia Ryng) and her brothers-in-law (Don Skitt and Manny Silva). Sylviane is survived by her son, Joseph Tingley, Jr., her daughter, Michelle Ryng, her stepson Gerald (Rusty) Whitehurst, Jr., and her stepdaughter Erin Jones. Sylviane is survived by two grandchildren: Cristofer Edington and Aaron Edington, one great-grandchild (Dean Edington) and five step-grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters (Rose Skitt, Sue Silva, and Michelle Smith) as well as two brothers (Donald Ryng and Stanley Ryng). She has numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lexington Oaks Clubhouse in Wesley Chapel, FL, on Friday, 9/23/22, at 5 pm. Casual, colorful attire is suggested. The family requests that donations be made in Sylviane’s honor to healthwellfoundation.org (or your favorite charity) in lieu of flowers. HealthWell Foundation offers financial assistance to cancer patients to help with the high costs and copays of cancer treatment not covered by health insurance. On-line condolences can be shared with the family directly on this website (Englewood Community Funeral Home).
