Obituary of Richard Schildmeyer
Richard Charles Schildmeyer, 87, of Port Charlotte died Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the Tidewell Hospice & Palliative Care in Port Charlotte.
Born on November 24, 1920 in Dayton, Ohio he had been a resident of Charlotte County for 20 years coming from Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mr. Schildmeyer served in the U. S. Army Air Corp during WW-II as a B17 pilot in the European Theater and was awarded four Battle Stars, the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and a Purple Heart. He was the former owner of Bridgetown Hardware in Ohio for three years until his retirement in 1982. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish who also served as an usher.
Survivors include his wife of twenty four years: Dorothy Mae Schildmeyer of Port Charlotte, FL; five daughters: MP Schildmeyer of Odessa, MO; Katherine (Steve) Coleman of Loganville, GA; Nancy (Wyhith) Cunningham of Daculta, GA; Elaine (Robert) Waszkiewicz of Mikado, MI; Margaret Schildmeyer of Flint, MI: one step daughter: Bonnie Enneking of Knoxville, TN; two sisters: Betty Bertke of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Joann (Joseph) Raga of Cincinnati, OH; one brother: Robert (Marilyn) Schildmeyer of Loveland, OH; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 17 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Englewood Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 3070 South McCall Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 18 at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 5265 Placida Road, Grove City. Entombment will follow at Venice Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
